Poetry is not a commodity

1.
"To be a poet is a condition, not a profession."
Robert Frost

2.

I humbly ask: Does poetry refuses to be a commodity?
Is my poetry refusing to become a commodity?

3.

This is a fragment of an inspiring text written by Sina Queyras.

4.

"What does it take to become a successful poet today? Basically, a miracle. Books of poetry, after all, rarely sell. A few thousand copies are considered more than respectable by most publishers. A few hundred thousand? Only the rarest and luckiest of American poets have seen such numbers. Just ask the best-selling poet in the U.S. today. Then again, don't bother. A Muslim mystic born in Central Asia almost eight centuries ago, he is no longer available for comment."

Its been very difficult for me to ascribe any particular professional code.  Funny...I did great in school, but not in the business of sticking to one single career.

6.
Idealist.org is not as ideal for a not so young Puerto Rican woman poet. I was born with a "strange" condition that no profession can withstand.

is that condition by any chance being a real poet?
Its important to constantly question and re-evaluate our chosen professions. Thats why I like this post :)

Poetry may not be a commodity if written by Neruda, Poe, Barba Jacob o Machado, Quevedo or Lope.

Everything else, recently, is just posing without signature.
